20 Allergy Friendly Back To School Snacks

Attention Class! School is back in session! I know it’s a struggle to have to get back into the habit of making lunches again, and it can be even more difficult when your kiddo has food allergies.

I wanted to put together a list of my favorite go-to allergy-friendly snacks. They can be snacks for work, after school, or to put in your kid’s lunchbox. They are tasty whether you have allergies or not - I can promise you that. I couldn’t narrow it down to just a few, so I divided it into sweet and savory categories for you. I also added a protein bar category for you, as well.

These snacks are not all Top 8 Free, but they are all free of some of the common allergens. So make sure you check the ingredients for what is best for you and your family.

Remember, these snacks are great for school, to keep on hand for an after school snack, a sports game or even as movie theater snacks! Yes - I am giving you permission to sneak food into the movies. And if they stop you, just say that Krysten from Krysten’s Kitchen said it’s okay, and that, also, you have food allergies/intolerances.

Happy & healthy snacking!

Rule Breakers Brownies and Blondies

gluten-free, non-GMO, top 8 free, dairy free, nut-free, vegan, organic

This brownie is made from BEANS, but you would never know it! It's also jam-packed with protein, low in sugar, non-GMO, 100% plant-based and free of the top 8 allergens.

I have been a fan of Rule Breaker Brownies (and their Blondies) since Expo West 2016. You could say it was love at first taste! I fell in love with the minimal ingredients, and I love that they use maple syrup to sweeten their brownies rather than traditional cane sugar. There is a little cane sugar in the chocolate chunks, however, but there's none added to the actual batter to make the brownies.

Rule Breaker’s Blondies and Brownies are so fudgey, have the perfect amount of sweetness and are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth around.

Right now, you can find these blondies and brownies at www.RuleBreakerSnacks.com and in retailers on the East Coast. For a limited time, from now until October 31st, 2017, you can use my code KRYSTENSKITCHEN on their website for 10% off ($25 minimum) and stock up! Stock up and keep them in your fridge or get extras for the freezer.

Watusee Foods Popped Caramel Sea Salt Chickpeatos

gluten-free, non-GMO, soy-free, corn-free, kosher, vegan, organic, cane sugar free

I found these snacks from Watusee Foods at Expo West in March, and they are probably one of our favorite things ever. I think the Caramel Sea Salt might be my legit fav! My family is obsessed with these sweet snacks for many reasons: they aren’t too sweet, they are made with coconut sugar (rather than cane sugar), they are high in protein, are corn-free and have simple, clean ingredients.

I made the tastiest treats with them recently; you can see that recipe here. I combined them with marshmallows and drizzled some chocolate on top, and they were just as addicting as eating them plain… or maybe even more addicting!

These Popped Caramel Sea Salt mini single serve packs are 100 calories, have less than 1g of sugar (from coconut sugar) and are so jam packed with protein and flavor that you will forget you are eating a healthy, good-for-you snack. You can even top your smoothie with these and hide the bag from your spouse! (shhhhhh!)

Right now, they are available at www.WatuseeFoods.com and come in large 4oz bags or small 1oz bags, which are convenient for school snacks and lunches. They will be available in stores soon.

I am an addict and I don’t care who knows it! Sometimes, my husband and I need to refrain from buying a bag of these at the store, because they are opened in the car and finished before we get home…. and we only live 10 minutes from the store! THAT is how delicious these are. Beanitos solved that problem because they made small single-serving bags of these tasty Mac and Cheese snacks, which you can order on Amazon.
