Brownie Superfood Smoothie using Rule Breakers Deep Chocolate Brownie

Brownie in a smoothie?

You did read that correctly! What about a healthy brownie made with protein and fiber, which is also nut-free and school-safe, gluten-free and vegan, too!? I know! Right? See — I know you are excited about this now!

This brownie is made from BEANS, and you would never know it. It's also jam packed with protein, low in sugar, non-GMO, 100% plant based and free of the top 8 allergens.

I have been a fan of Rule Breaker Brownies (and their Blondies) since Expo West 2016. You could say it was love at first taste! I fell in love with the minimal ingredients, and I love that they use maple syrup to sweeten their brownies rather than traditional cane sugar. There is a little cane sugar in the chocolate chunks, however, there's none added to the actual batter to make the brownies.

I just think, every now and then, you need to change up your smoothie routine, spice it up, and throw a brownie in the mix… literally — the Vitamix to be specific, and make yourself a delicious, healthy, chocolate brownie smoothie. Try this recipe!

You can use KRYSTEN-10 now, through October 31st 2017 to receive 10% off your order of Rule Breakers’ delicious Brownies and Blondies at www.RuleBreakersnacks.com.

Here are a few notes about this recipe.

  • I prefer to use homemade cashew milk or Good Karma Foods unsweetened flax milk for this smoothie. You can use whatever milk you would like. We don’t use almond milk, because my hubby has an almond intolerance.

  • I never use ice in my smoothies. I use frozen zucchini in all of my smoothies to add extra greens, because it thickens up the smoothie without adding any sugar, and it replaces ice perfectly. It also won’t water down your smoothie like ice.

  • I do not use much banana, ever. Bananas add lots of extra sugar. In a medium banana there is about 14g of sugar. YES - this is natural sugar, however, it still adds grams of sugar where you don’t need it. Also, I must avoid bananas (because of the sugar) due to my PCOS. Instead, I use a small, bite-size piece of frozen banana in my smoothies. It adds the banana flavor without the banana sugar and satisfies my love for bananas.

  • Maca powder is a very nutritious superfood and has some wonderful health benefits. It is a great source of vitamins and minerals. It can improve your overall mood, reduce anxiety, and improve your memory. It can give you energy and can boost your sports performance. It has shown to help with balancing hormones, as well. Basically you should just add this superfood to everything. I love to add it to my chocolate smoothies because I think it boosts the chocolate flavor.

__________

INGREDIENTS

1 cup dairy milk of choice

2 scoops of Nuzest Chocolate Plant Based Protein Powder*

4-6 pieces of frozen zucchini

1 small piece of banana

1 TB maca powder**

1 Rule Breaker Deep Chocolate Brownie

* We love this protein powder because it's low in carbs, high in protein and low in sugar. It's made with clean ingredients and tastes chocolatey. You can use KrystensKitchen for a discount. Any protein powder will work. I recommend you use chocolate, though.

** I use the Organic Maca Powder from Sunfood.

Directions:

Throw everything in a blender, blend until smooth. Drizzle with your favorite nut butter, roasted coconut butter from eatingEVOLVED or your favorite granola. Get creative and enjoy your brownie smoothie!

In this picture, I used my favorite chocolate spread from eatingEVOLVED, an organic, vegan, paleo chocolate spread that I drizzled on top of my brownie smoothie. This chocolate spread is currently being reformulated and revamped. It will be available soon on www.eatingevolved.com soon.
